Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Thursday said the performance of the overall smart city project in the state has been very good.
While reacting to the recent report of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) which has placed Shillong among the 10 worst performers in terms of implementing smart city projects, Sangma said, most of the projects under this scheme are going on in full swing.
“We don’t know what the criteria is but we infact is a state which has been very fast in implementing all the large number of projects you have seen in the Polo areas is being done by the smart city project, so its in very advanced stage,” the Chief Minister said.
He also informed that the Integrated Command and Control Center will be ready by the end of this year.
Under the smart city project, the ICCC unit acts as a one-stop location for providing e-governance services. These include applications for water connections, business licenses, property tax payment, permission for multimedia activities such as shooting etc., application of cesspool, registration of plumbing licenses, and issuance of birth and death certificates.
“At the same time the ICCC the Integrated Command Centre will be ready by the end of this year so in all the projects we are moving forward. I really don’t know the criteria on which it was really based on so I have to check that but as per my information knowledge we have been working very hard and the performance of division and overall smart city has been very good and most of the projects are going on in full swing,” Sangma said.
It may be mentioned that four cities in the Northeast including Shillong has been listed as the worst performers in terms of implementing smart city projects by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA).
