Poll personnel of around 762 polling stations under P-2 dispatch in advance: CEO

Poll personnel of around 762 polling stations under P-2 on Wednesday were dispatched one day in advance along with the security teams.

A large number of security personnel were also sent along with the polling personnel. Chief Electoral Officer DR BDR Tiwari informed “The poll personnel from 244 polling stations under Shillong Parliamentary constituency and 518 poll personnel under the Tura parliamentary constituency moved today.”

The P-2 mainly consists of the polling personnel moving to  the areas which are difficult to reach mainly because of difficult terrains where the polling parties are dispatch in advance.

The polling teams are trekking steep mountain paths, crossing muddy rivers, transcending difficult terrains — in some areas through ropeways, to reach their destinations.

“Some of the areas like Kamsing polling station under Amlarem constituency where polling party has to go by boat so they have to move in advance, like Rongcheng Polling station in Rongra Siju constituency where polling team has to trek, or Kalatek in Shella area which is accessible only by boat, like that many others are there,” Tiwari added.

He further added that so far, the total seizures in both Shillong and Tura parliamentary seats before and after the announcement of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) stand at Rs. 43.13 crore.

The campaign for the first phase of Lok Sabha polls came to an end on Wednesday at 4PM. In some of the areas polling parties have to reach by boat while in some on foot. Altogether 10 candidates are in fray contesting two seats in Meghalaya. Meghalaya will go for polls in the first phase of Lok Sabha polls scheduled to be held on April 19.
