The Chairperson of Regional Democratic Alliance (RDA) and United Democratic Party (UDP) Metbah Lyngdoh on Wednesday said the party is in the process of finalising candidates as the RDA is likely to announce its candidates in a week’s time or so.
Speaking to Meghalaya News 24, Lyngdoh said, “We are in the process of finalising candidates from the party, hopefully, may be in a week time also whenever we feel it’s the appropriate time as far as the selection of candidate.”
Asked, he said the efforts are made to see that the announcement of Candidates will come much before Christmas
“We are putting all efforts to see that we are coming out with the names much before that (Christmas),”he added.
Asked if VPP is any threat for UDP in the coming elections, the UDP chief said, “UDP will fight on its own and as of now there is a talk, there is a discussion where we as a part we will be fighting together with the RDA.”
As far as the finalisation of candidates the decision will be taken along with the HSPDP.
Asked if the concept of unification of regional parties gets diluted with the different stand taken by VPP, he said, “I have nothing to say as far as VPP is concern because I don’t know exactly their mind but as far as the RDA is concern as we are together with HSPDP we will still continue to invite and request other regional political parties to come and work together under the banner of RDA.”
Stating that the RDA is open for even female candidates, the Chairperson said it’s not mandatory for the alliance to find the female candidates for contesting Lok Sabha elections.
