As the rain fury continues to lash Garo Hills, the retaining wall of the newly constructed PA Sangma Stadium in Tura, Meghalaya collapsed.
With the collapse of the retaining wall, soils from the main field inundating the road next to the former Coal India Limited complex damaging several parked vehicles.
It may be mentioned that just before the election in December 2022, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma inaugurated this stadium in honour of his late father. However, the Chief Minister was slammed by the opposition as well as the alliance BJP for inaugurating the incomplete PA Sangma stadium.
The stadium is a technological marvel, being the country’s largest pre-engineered composite football stadium with a sizable seating capacity of 9,500.
