Scuffle between TMC & NPP supporters: Trouble mongers will be bound down under CrPC 107: CEO

​Meghalaya Chief Electoral Officer FR Kharkongor on Wednesday informed that three companies of the Central Armed Police Force have been actively deployed in the entire plain belt.

Following Tuesday’s late night incident at Charbatapara booth in Phulbari assembly constituency of West Garo Hills where a scuffle broke out between TMC and NPP supporters. The incident took place at around 10.45 pm.

The Chief Electoral Officer further informed that Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) and sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) along with Block Development Officers (BDOs) are deployed and stationed in the area.

“CAPF is undertaking intensive area domination. All concerned trouble mongers will be bound down under CrPC 107,” Kharkongor said.

“Situation is under control,” the officer added.

While informing that TMC candidate and former MLA S. G. E. Mominin ,  Moni Mondol (TMC), Bhuttu (TMC), and Habibur Zaman , the NPP MDC was present at the spot, he said, “on receipt of information, team from Phulbari PS rushed to the PO and controlled the situation.”

Altogether nine persons were sent for medical examination at Phulbari CHC but all were discharged after examination.

In this regard, FIR has been submitted by one Nozim Hussain, S/o (L) Abdul Sk, R/o Charbatapara alleging that one procession led by Habibur Zaman (NPP) stopped near his house and pelted stones at his house due to which 4 persons got injured. It was also alleged that the reason for the clash was that while Habibur Zaman and his supporters were passing through the village, few TMC supporters hit their Scorpio vehicle which led to the scuffle.

 

TMC workers attacked in Phulbari

It may be mentioned that in a video release by AITC Meghalaya, TMC candidate SG Esmatur Mominin alleged that several party workers were attacked by NPP men at Charbatapara booth in Phulbari assembly constituency on Tuesday night.

The AITC said in a statement said, the NPP workers vandalised the meeting place of Meghalaya TMC.

“The NPP workers barged into  the meeting premises creating a ruckus. Following which, Nozrul Hoque, 59, was injured. Party workers rushed him to the nearby CHC,” Mominin said.

A TMC statement said Mominin was in contact with the injured party workers.

Mominin appealed to TMC workers to remain calm and work for the constituency.
