Several post poll violence reported in Meghalaya on Thursday following the counting of votes for the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly election.
Post poll violence was also reported in Mairang constituency where the agitators set ablaze a vehicle. Pelting of stone was also reported.
Agitators try to create arson in the DC office because of the Congress candidate losing. The Superintendent of Police Maxwell B Syiem was also hit by a stone in the eye.
“The situation is very tense, there are attempts to create arson in the DC office because of their (Congress) candidate losing today,” Syiem said.
Meanwhile, Sohra too witnessed chaos following a wrong announcement of the poll results in Shella constituency by a news channel.

Asked, the SP said, “Basically the people here came for the victory march and they were agitated, so without using aggressive forces they were persuaded to move out.”
“The crowd became violent and aggressive after which water cannons had to be used to disperse the crowd, nobody was injured,” he added.
The District Magistrate of West Jaintia Hills District, BS Sohliya, on Thursday imposed curfew in Sahsniang village under Mowkaiaw constituency after violence erupted following the declaration of results for the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly election.
As per reports, a group of supporters allegedly belonging to the National People’s Party (NPP) attacked several houses and a security force vehicle.
In a bid to curtail the spread of violence, authorities decided to impose curfew in the area.
