NPP National President and also the Chief Minister of Meghalaya Conrad Sangma has distanced himself from the political turmoil in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council.
Talking to reporters in Shillong, Chief Minister Sangma said the political dynamics of the District Council is different from that of the state politics and normally the state government does not intervene in any of the political situations that are there in any of the district councils.
“The matters that are related to the ADCs are their internal matters and normally the state government does not intervene in any of the political situations that are there in any of the district councils be it Khasi, Jaintia or Garo Hills Autonomous district councils,” Sangma said.
“ So therefore it is an autonomous body , it’s a separate government and hence even politically there are its own dynamics out there internally which are very complicated in nature and hence we have always maintained that that’s a different chapter and matter and we do not intervene in the overall movement,” the Chief Minister added.
It may be mentioned that with the collapse of the UDP-led Executive Committee (EC) in KHADC, the NPP has partnered with Congress to form the new EC, with Pyniaid Sing Syiem, the NPP MDC from Sohryngkham, as the new Chief Executive Member (CEM).
“It’s an internal matter and a separate matter from the Government and we normally don’t interfere in the day-to-day functioning of the district councils,” he said.
When asked about the unhappiness of the UDP president that it was not a smooth transition Sangma said “….Obviously it is not what any of us would have expected, we would have wanted to be resolved in a proper manner but there are complications which are there and it I guess it required whatever movements that had to be done.”
“So yes there are challenges and complications as I said but we don’t interfere in the day to day function. Lot of things are there that are not even knowledge in the sense what complications there are and what politics that go on internally there are different situations that are faced on a day to day basis between different MDCs and the Executive committee (EC) so those challenges are always there and obviously it is upto the Chief Executive Member to manage and handle things,” Sangma said.
