Opposition AITC state president Charles Pyngrope on Wednesday condemned the recent violent incident during a public hearing at Thangskai village in East Jaintia Hills.
Speaking to reporters, Pyngrope said, “Nothing can be solved through violence but only through dialogues because confrontational attitude doesn’t work in a civilized society.”
The Nongthymmai legislator said that police should have exercise restraint and not use force on women and people.
“Such incidents should not take place in the future. I really condemned the incident irrespective of why they were there in the first place,” he added.
He also urged the State government to be more proactive and anticipate the situation that may arise to prevent any law and order situation.
Meanwhile, Pyngrope also urged the State government to take steps to ensure there is no illegal encroachment from Assam.
When asked, the AITC leader said, “I am not familiar with that area and honestly I have not been there but the very fact that it belongs to the territory of Meghalaya, means some steps have to be taken to make sure that the encroachment does stop as illegal encroachment means you are going against the law. It is legally not allowed. So therefore, our government should take steps to ensure these things do not happen.”
