Putting Congress in a tight spot over seat-sharing in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, TMC Meghalaya leader and Former Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma on Tuesday said the TMC must field candidates in both Shillong and Tura Parliamentary seats.

Talking to Meghalaya News 24, Dr Sangma said the party’s state leadership has communicated this to Meghalaya Incharge Manas Ranjan Bhunia.

“…..we must put up our candidates and this has been already communicated to the Incharge for the state of Meghalaya from the political party,” Dr Sangma said while stating that the vote share of the party has significantly increased in its first outing in the State.

“Yes we must. You look at the responsibility that we have agreed to shoulder upon ourselves and this intent of shouldering the responsibility revolves around building the state and how we can contribute towards building the nation,” the TMC leader said.

Amidst the INDIA bloc seat sharing norms, the former Chief Minister and Songsak legislator said, “Let’s be part of the story and to be part of the story we must participate in the elections but ofcource you are aware of the I.N.D.I.A Bloc is trying to see wherever possible  as far as possible  to have common candidate that means a single candidate representing all the opposition parties who have agreed to be in INDIA bloc but there is a catch and the catch is that the decision that have been arrived is as far as possible, that means there are bound to be exceptions in certain constituencies, in certain states.”

“Therefore based on this, we have to be practical, look at our vote share in the state, ofcourse yes in the Eastern part we were not able to make our presence felt in as much as we could have but in the western part, the result during the Assembly elections in terms of winning the seat might have been different but overall enthusiasm which people gravitated towards the party, I think these are indicative of what has happened and the resulted share of votes,” he added.
