Taking the initiative to ensure that the regional parties can address the aspirations of the State’s people in a better way, the United Democratic Party (UDP) President Metbah Lyngdoh on Saturday said talks are still on with other regional parties for unification.
The UDP is eyeing unification ahead of the Lok Sabha election.
“The effort is on. We are trying to ensure that the regionalism approach is still in place. We are still together with the Regional Democratic Alliance (RDA). Again we will meet as RDA and discuss related issues, which are concerning the indigenous people,” Lyngdoh said.
The RDA was formed in 2017 by the HSPDP, UDP and Garo National Council (GNC).
Meanwhile, the UDP chief said that within a short time, the party will sit down as a core group to make plans and take decisions on how to move forward as far as upcoming Lok Sabha and ADC elections are concerned.
