SHILLONG, JUNE 6: Power Minister AT Mondal on Thursday said in view of the rehabilitation of the Umiam dam and retrofitting of the bridge, the vehicles will now be allowed to pass through the bridge in a zigzag way.
Stating that the target of the department is to complete the work within the first week of August, Mondal said, the reviews are being conducted weekly basis on the progress of the work.
“We are also working to allow vehicles to pass in a zigzag way so that we can work better to complete the work,” The Power Minister said.
“We are working on it and I am very confident that it will be completed in due course of time by July or first week of August,” Mondal added.
According to him, traffic flow is okay as there is no problem.
Meanwhile, in a press statement, Police said, a No entry has been impose for all the vehicles passing through Umiam dam from 11 Pm to 1 am.
“Concerte Mixing and Pouring will be done at Umiam Bridge Tonight the 06/06/2024 from 11 PM Till 1:00 AM . During this time there will be NO ENTRY of all vehicles including LMVs through the bridge. Commuters are advised to plan their travel accordingly,” Police statement said.
Police also asked the commuters to take alternate route or plan their travel.
Further, talking about the power scenario in the state, the Minister said there were frequent power cuts in the recent days as the last cyclone Remal has devastated the power distribution and transmission system, the officials of the MeECL are working on it some areas are still have faulty connection.
“You must be knowing that the last cyclone ram has devastated our power distribution and transmission system We are working on it some areas are still having faulty connections,” the Minister said.
To repair those areas, Mondal said, the MeECL has to go for shut down in certain areas.
He also said that the state is in a better position in terms of power scenario is concern. Mondal also claimed that there is uninterrupted power supply in the state so far.
