139 senior citizens, 54 Pwds opt to vote from home: Sohiong adjourned poll

Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) FR Kharkongor on Friday informed that as many as 139 Senior citizens above 80 years of age and around 54 persons with disabilities (PWD) exercised home voting in various parts of Sohiong.

The Election Commission teams undertook arduous treks to reach the most far-flung areas to ensure no voter is left behind.

The initiative of the Election Commission of India (ECI) allowing senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWDs) to vote from home has received a good response in the state.

“Senior citizens casting home voting & polling officials going the last mile traversing jungle paths , crossing rivers to ensure that no voter is left behind,” Kharkongor said.

Election in Sohiong was adjourned due to the demise of the contesting​​ candidate of United Democratic Party (L) HDR Lyngdoh on February 20.

Now, the adjourned poll to Sohiong will be held on May 10 and the date of counting is on May 13.
