Within two weeks of its launch, Meghalaya Trinamool Congress’s flagship initiative WE Card has crossed over one lakh registrations. The Meghalaya Financial Inclusion for Women Empowerment Scheme (MFI WE), more popularly known as WE Card, was launched in the presence of All India Trinamool Congress chairperson Mamata Banerjee on December 13.
In order to simplify the process of registration for the people of the state, Meghalaya TMC has set up kiosks in every Assembly Constituency making the scheme accessible to even those residing in the remotest corners of the state. Throughout the past two weeks, women from all walks of life showed unparalleled enthusiasm in registering for this one-of-a-kind scheme.
WE Card assures a guaranteed income support of ₹1,000 every month to one woman per household in the state. The universal nature of the scheme brings over 5.5 lakh households across the state under its fold irrespective of religion, caste, class, or income bracket. The money will be transferred directly into the bank accounts of the beneficiaries further empowering the women of the state. Women can authenticate and activate the card by sending an SMS to 9687796877 following which they will receive a digital version of the card.
Reacting on reaching the milestone, Meghalaya TMC State Mahila President Selma D Shira said, “Meghalaya TMC has achieved an important milestone today. We have completed 1 Lakh registrations for the WE card. As a State Mahila President, I would like to congratulate all the Mahilas who have registered for the WE Card. Furthermore, I would like to urge all the Mahilas of the state to register for the WE Card. I believe that empowering women is a step towards a prosperous family.”
Lone female MDC of Garo Hills Autonomous District council and Meghalaya TMC leader, Sadhiarani M Sangma said, “I am very happy to announce that more than 1 lakh women have registered for Meghalaya TMC’s MFI-WE Card.I would like to congratulate all the women who have registered for the WE card.Those who haven’t registered for the WE Card, I urge them to complete the registration process so that all of you may get the benefits of this card.”
Another female leader, June E Marak, Vice President, Meghalaya Pradesh Mahila Trinamool Congress Committee said, “Being the Meghalaya Mahila Vice President, I feel proud of this day.The WE card which is launched by our party, has received phenomenal response, as we saw that more than 1 lakh women have registered for Meghalaya TMC’s MFI-WE Card.I would like to thank all the women for registering and I will urge all women of the State to come forward and register for this scheme. The day is coming, may you all take this opportunity to register yourself, because I believe that it will be helpful for every woman running the house.”
North Shillong Trinamool Congress Block President Elgiva Gwyneth Rynjah on 1 Lakh registrations of WE Card said, “Today, Meghalaya TMC is happy to announce that over one lakh registrations have been recorded for the WE Card scheme so far. The women of Meghalaya, people, and fellow citizens have shown their full support towards the Trinamool Congress in the state. “
She said, launched two weeks ago, the WE Card is the first such scheme launched in Meghalaya for women.
“Keeping in mind the pandemic that caused a crisis in our state and the country, the scheme will help in ensuring income support for every household in the state. I request my fellow women and citizens to kindly register themselves at different kiosks in every constituency, area, block, and different part of the villages. Over 5.5 lakh households will get benefit from Meghalaya TMC’s WE CARD scheme. I urge each and every woman of Meghalaya not to get scared in registering themselves because this card will help in ensuring a secure future for you,” she added.
Last week, Trinamool Congress Legislature Party Leader and Leader of Opposition, Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, Dr. Mukul Sangma helped women of Songsak fill up their offline registration forms for the WE Card. Images of Dr. Sangma assisting women at the Songsak registration kiosks went viral on social media.
