Conrad says there is strong understanding between NDA partners in NE in this Lok Sabha polls

SHILLONG, MAR 23:  National People’s Party (NPP) national chief and Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Saturday said there is a very strong understanding between the NDA partners North East in the Lok Sabha Elections.

Expressing happiness on the decision of the BJP to extend full support to the NPP in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, Sangma said there is a consensus from all the  NDA partners to the maximum extent possible all try and support the NDA candidates in the Lok Sabha Elections.

Speaking to Mediapersons, the NPP Supremo said, “There has been very good communication amongst the NDA partners and hence, there is a consensus from all the NDA partners that to the maximum extent possible, we should all try and support the NDA candidature in every specific constituency. For example, the NDA candidate is the NDPP candidate in the state of Nagaland and therefore what should be the BJP stand for that and what should be NPP stand, NPP has fought MLA there, and similarly other parties are there.”

“So like that there is a strong move towards creating a more consensus towards support to the NDA candidate could be sponsored by a specific political party say in Meghalaya it happens to be NPP and in Nagaland, it happens to NDPP and in Manipur it happens to NPF and Arunachal Pradesh happens to be BJP. So like that there will be a kind of a movement and there is a movement towards that,” he said.

Sangma informed that he would be visiting Nagaland on Monday to meet the Nagaland chief minister.

“Therefore, I am going to Nagaland on Monday and I will be meeting the chief minister of Nagaland along with my party leaders and MLAs to discuss about the matter and similarly our leader and general secretary James Sangma right now is in Arunachal Pradesh discussing similar matters and also discussing about assembly elections there and similarly I had met my Manipur leaders, they had come to Shillong and we met them in the morning for almost an hour to discuss these matters. Like that there is a strong consensus and we are moving towards ensuring that NDA candidates are supported,” he said.

Further, Sangma said, “Every support is a good thing. Every organization has their base, every organization has their voters and obviously the support of any individual or any political party coming and supporting us is a positive thing. Therefore, every drop adds to the ocean as we call it and therefore, we are very happy and we are very hopeful that the support that is coming in will have a positive impact on the NPP.”

He said that the party is working very hard to win from the Shillong seat.

“We are very thankful to all political parties that are extending their support to us, we are now getting the support from the BJP, support from the TMC in Nongthymmai constituency and outside Nongthymmai constituency also, there would be TMC leaders who would be supporting the NPP. Like that, we are getting support from everybody and we are thankful for that but still there is a lot of work to be done. We have to reach out and we have to connect with the people and campaign for our candidate so that work is going on and we hope for the best,” he said.

Asked about Tura seat Sangma said that the party is not trying to be over confident during the election but is working hard to retain the seat.

“I don’t believe that we are in the driving seat or I don’t like to think like that or we don’t try to be over confident in elections. I have mentioned it every time in every election you must have noticed.

Every election is different, we have to work hard in Tura also, we cannot take things for granted and we are not taking things for granted,” he said.
