NPP election Committee proposes name of candidates for upcoming Lok Sabha election

The NPP election Committee on Wednesday proposed two names for the two parliamentary seats in Meghalaya. The party is expected to declare the candidate lists by the end of this week.

NPP Meghalaya President Prestone Tynsong said the six-member party’s Election Committee sat on Wednesday to discuss  candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

The Committee proposed names of candidates for both Tura and Shillong seats.

“The state election authority of NPP already sat down today and most likely within this week, once we get the approval of the National President about the candidature of the proposed names from both the constituencies Shillong and Tura, then I will get back to you,” Tynsong said.

Asked, has the state election authority of the NPP proposed any name? He said, “Yes we have done it. Since there are two seats, we have proposed two names, one for each from Tura and Shillong and that is the recommendation. From two parliamentary constituencies, two names are proposed. “

Tynsong further said by Saturday the National President of NPP Conrad K Sangma is likely to give his nod to the proposed names.

As for the ticket aspirants, he said, “There were so many, not less than five- six, from both the constituencies.”

Asked about the name of Cabinet Minister Dr Ampareen Lyngdoh featuring as a strong contender for Shillong, he said, I already said please wait till this week, still it’s confidential until and unless the National President of the NPP approves it, I am not allowed to say anything on this.
