NPP failed to find suitable candidates from South Shillong & Mairang constituencies: Conrad

The National People’s Party did not field any candidates in the 19 South Shillong Constituency and 30-Mairang constituency as the National President of NPP Conrad K Sangma said the party has failed to find suitable candidates from the two constituencies.

The National People’s Party on Wednesday announced the name of the 58 candidates for the upcoming election in Meghalaya.

Taking to reporters, the NPP National President said “There is no specific reason for it, we had been working towards identifying candidates and we went ahead with the areas where we felt that we have a strong candidates and fighting chance, we don’t want to put up a candidate for the sake of putting up.”

Sangma added, “It so happened that we didn’t find candidates, though we did find some people, we were not satisfied with that and hence as a party we decided that we let the Mairang and South Shillong both areas we did not find satisfied candidates.”

Meanwhile, Conrad K Sangma on Thursday denied that there was any understanding with the BJP and the UDP by his party not fielding candidates from South Shillong and Mairang constituencies.

“You can always make your own judgment and reach your own conclusions but the fact of the matter is what I have told you,” he maintained.
