Prestone Tynsong supports  “One Nation, One Election”

“One Nation, One Election” proposal of the central Government finds takers in Meghalaya too. The ruling National People party (NPP)  in Meghalaya, who is also an ally in the Prime Minister Narendra Modi led NDA Government at the centre, has come out openly to support the proposal.  Deputy Chief Minister and also the NPP leader Prestone Tynsong while welcoming the proposal said this will save a lot of time and manpower.

“It has not come officially for the debate, be it the parliament or the state Assembly. My personal opinion is if we have one Nation one election I think we will be able to save a lot of time, save a lot of funds, and we will also be able to save a lot of manpower,” Tynsong said.

Further, the Deputy Chief Minister said, implementation of the election model code of conduct affects the overall development programme of the Government.

“Once we have an election, you understand even the model code of conduct has to be implemented every now, every 6 months which ultimately affects the overall development programme of the be it the central government of the state government,” he added.

It may be mentioned that after Assembly polls, the state is gearing up for the Lok Sabha elections and the district council polls. The election to the Garo Hills Autonomous district council election is also conducted separately.
