Police arrests HNLC PSO Story Lyngdoh from Shillong

Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) PSO Story Lyngdoh was arrested from Shillong on Saturday morning.

Acting on a tip off, an operation team of East Khasi Hills apprehended the 41 year old HNLC cadre from his residence at Mawlynrei, Khliehshnong Block-C, Shillong, police said.

From his possession, one mobile phone along with one Bangladesh Banglalink  SIM card and one Indian Airtel SIM card and one 1GB SD memory card have been recovered.

Police said that there are reports of him being invovled in activities such as extortion, regrouping, and mobilizing support of symphathizers for anti-national and violent causes.

Rituraj Ravi, IPS Superintendent of Police East Khasi Hills, Shillong said on Friday the East Khasi Hills Police received information that one cadre of the Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC), Storgy Lyngdoh, had served demand notes to extort money for the HNLC leading to widespread scare and fear psychosis to a number of businessmen of Shillong.

“As per inputs he might have succeeded in scaring and threatening individuals to submit to the illegal extorting demands.  It was further ascertained that he was residing in Mawlynrei, Khliehshnong, Shillong,” Ravi said.

In pursuant to the information, the East Khasi Hills Police arrested Storgy Lyngdoh from Mawlynrei in the early morning of 02nd March 2024.

During his arrest, one Bangladeshi SIM car was also recovered from him.

“Storgy Lyngdoh is an active member of the HNLC with a close link to the Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the HNLC. He was also the PSO of A. Hazarika @ Manbhalang Jyrwa, the previous Vice Chairman of HNLC,” the SP said.

“In this connection, an FIR has been registered at Rynjah PS for further investigation into the matter.  As per the records of Meghalaya Police, he is involved in many criminal cases and was evading the due process of law,” he added.
