BJP Meghalaya chief spokesperson Mariahom Kharkrang on Friday thanked the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari for allocating Rs 1,241 crore for the enhancement and expansion of the Phulbari-Tura segment on National Highway 127B in Meghalaya.

The existing road infrastructure along the Phulbari-Tura segment on National Highway 127B will be upgraded into a two-lane thoroughfare with paved shoulders and will facilitate smoother access to Tura, the district headquarters of West Garo Hills and other parts of Meghalaya via NH-217 (Tura-Dalu side) and Tura-Jengjal-Rongjeng-Nongstoin-Shillong.

Khrakrang said, “76 years of Independence and 50 years of attaining statehood, yet successive Central Governments refused to recognize Meghalaya’s pressing infrastructural needs. Govt. after Govt. ignored connectivity requirements which are vital for people to people interaction, as well as intra state trade and commerce.”

“We are proud that we finally have a Govt. at the Centre which understands the pressing needs of our state and works proactively to solve our issues. The Prime Minister Modi has been a friend of the North East since day one, a slew of development projects in the North East bears testimony.

The allocation of the latest funds strengthens the understanding that we have a Meghalaya friendly Govt. at the center. Meghalaya BJP will continue to work towards strengthening Shri Narendra Modi’s hand and ensuring continuity of his people friendly Govt,” Kharkrang added.
