4 power projects are being identified for pump storage scheme in Meghalaya

With the South West monsoon withdrawing from the entire state of Meghalaya on Tuesday, 17 October 2023, Minister in Charge of Power AT Mondal said the state is prepared and will try to prevent load-shedding in the future.

The Power Minister said as many as four power projects are being identified for pump storage scheme and the pre-feasibility report will be submitted by December this year.

“We are prepared, we hope that we can cope well because last time it was very sudden and very unprecedented, this time we are expecting that we will cope up with the situation,” Mondal said, adding steps are being taken in this direction.

Stating that NTPC is helping the state Government, the power Minister said, “We are working with them(NTPC) to study some power projects and we have identified around four power projects which can be gone for pump storage scheme and their total capacity will be around 3100 MW and may be by December we will be completing our pre-feasibility report also.”

He further informed that the only problem the state is facing is about funding.

“We have requested the union power Minister and he assured that he will be thinking of providing us some financial assistance in this regard also. So we will be again going back to him to see if we get some financial assistance. The amount will be known after the prefeasibility report is submitted and DPR is made, but NTPC has helped us to identify these schemes,” the Minister added.
