Aadhaar not mandatory in Meghalaya: Govt

Minister in-charge Food and Civil supplies Comingone Ymbon on Tuesday stated that Aadhaar is not mandatory in Meghalaya.

With the last date of linking PAN with Aadhaar has been extended to June 30, 2023, the Minister said Meghalaya falls under the exemption category.

“Aadhar  of is now is not mandatory to all and so there is nothing to worry about,” Ymbon said.

Meanwhile, while talking to reports in Shillong, the Minister said around 40% of the population in the state do not have aadhaar card as the penetration percentage is only 60% registered till date in the State.

“Aadhar implementation in the state is around 60 to 70 percent already, people in Meghalaya don’t want aadhar, I don’t want to go into the details,” he said.

The implementation of Adhaar in the state has been the backburner for the respective state governments as there were multiple organisations opposing it.

Meanwhile the Minister with regards to one nation One Ration stated that the implementation of the process is very slow.

After the Centre decided to provide free food grains to 81 crore beneficiaries in 2023 under the National Food Security Act, the main question still remains that the beneficiaries are still low.
