Congress has no intention to support NPP led MDA Govt 2: Congress MDC

Congress MLA and MDC from Nongstoiñ Constituency, Gabriel Wahlang on Tuesday clarified that the party has no intention to support the National People’s Party (NPP) led MDA 2 Government in the state.

He, however, has termed the decision of the Congress MDCs to support NPP in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) is for the “welfare of our culture”.

Talking to Meghalaya News 24, Wahlang said, “We only support in the District council for the welfare of our culture. The District Council is so much different from the State, in the District Council we look after the culture of the people. So there is no chance of supporting the MDA government.”

Asked if the Chief Minister and NPP president sought any support from the Congress leaders, he said, “No, the Chief Minister has not said a word regarding any support for the MDA 2 Government.”

Meanwhile, NPP spokesperson and MDC Bajop Pyngrope said there is no permanent foe, no permanent friends in politics and anything can happen.

Pyngrope, who is also NPP MDC, while reacting on the proximity of NPP and Congress, said, “Anything can happen in politics, anytime; we will just wait and watch. I cannot rule out (proximity between Congress and NPP) at this juncture.”

Reacting to the statement of Bajop Pyngrope, the congress MDC said , “Bajop is an NPP and he may say what he likes, but we are congress, so we are not going to support the Government in the state.”

Meanwhile, the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee is scheduled to meet on Wednesday at 2 pm.
