Jolt to UDP as many leaders from Ri Bhoi quit party

In a major setback for the United Democratic Party (UDP) in Meghalaya just days before the Lok Sabha elections, as many as 31 leaders from Ri Bhoi district decided to quit the party.

Some of the prominent names amongst those who resigned include the Working President of UDP State Wing and Ri Bhoi District Unit Donbok Khymdeit, Chief Adviser Raphael Massar, Adviser Rangkynsai R Makdoh, Joint Secretary Women’s Wing Queen Mary Rymbai, Auditor Biolkingstar Tmung, leaders of the youth wing, executive members beside others.

The timing of the resignation is expected to affect the electoral prospects of Robertjune Kharjahrin, the Regional Democratic Alliance (RDA) candidate contesting for the Shillong Parliamentary seat.

Unhappy with the leadership of UDP, they are likely to join the NPP.
