Mass training for school teachers in Meghalaya: Rakkam

Following the adaptation of NCERT text books in the state, Meghalaya Government is looking forward to having a mass training for the teachers.

Meghalaya Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma on Tuesday said this will help the teachers to set question papers for examination, evaluate and teach in the classroom.

“The next step will be to train our teachers because our teachers has to be trained how to set up the question paper with the content of the new  text books with National standard, so Meghalaya Board of School Education, Directorate of Educational Research and Training (DERT) and the state Government will work to train the teachers well so that be in setting question papers, evaluation of teaching in the class rooms,  they should be able to meet the challenges of present standard scenario,” Rakkam said.

Stating that the Education sector has gone for a quick shift from the MBOSE content curriculum to the curriculum in line with the NCERT syllabus, the Minister asked the teachers to gear up and study beyond the books.

“I think teachers have to work a little more now because teachers have to study beyond the books they can teach the best knowledge to the student,” he added.

The Education Minister further said, “We are collaborating with NCERT and expert across the country, sometime we will send our teachers to Delhi, Resource person from Delhi will come here and within the state we have enough expert teachers MBOSE and DERT will take a call on when and how to train these teachers.”

Asked, he said “We will be going for online training, we will be setting up 12-15 smart training rooms in most of the training institutions be it in Government or non government. The online training or the Virtual training will be given from Delhi. We will be setting up in the next two to three months the entire training process.”

 

Further, the Education Minister informed that soon after the end of the budget session of Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, he will meet with the Khasi Author Society, Achik Literature Society, District council, all the stakeholders and the traditional experts seeking suggestion for incorporation of traditional believes and culture in the text books of Meghalaya.

 

“After the budget session I will be sitting with all the stakeholders of the Khasi Author Society, Achik Literature Society, District council, all the stakeholders and the traditional experts, this traditional believes and the culture of our tribal people we are thinking to add in the curriculum, I will be sitting with the head of the department of Khasi and Garo , will be forming the committee so that they will develop and design what things to be should be included in the curriculum. They have to frame the curriculum and suggest the government,” the Education Minister added.
