Meghalaya Govt to set up climate museum-cum-centre at Upper Shillong

In its endeavour to reach out to the younger generations and the youths about the impact of Global warming and climate change, the state Government is setting up a climate museum-cum-centre at Upper Shillong.

Speaking to reporters, Sangma said this centre will be the place where students can go and get experience about this crucial issue of climate change. He said the centre will be set up on forest department land next to the Elephant Falls.

“It is going to be a climate museum cum centre where we plan to make this into a location where students can come and get hands-on experience and look at the different aspects of climate change that is taking place in the region, in the state, in the country and the world as a whole. It is a place where we can educate children and at the same time have discussions. We will have conference rooms, different places for stay so that large conferences can happen,” he said.

Further, Meghalaya Government has proposed for an annual regional conference on climate change for the Microscopic deliberation on this issue.

“We are proposing that annually there should be a conference at the regional level of the North East where we discuss every year about important aspects of climate and how the different states can work together,” he said
