Meghalaya Police officially started the ‘NARCO app’ to curb the menace of drugs in the state.

On the occasion of International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking,  Chief Minister Conrad Sangma launched this Drug Free Meghalaya App.

Informing about this newly launched app, Director General of Police (DGP) of Meghalaya, Dr LR Bishnoi said, “We have launched a Narco app. This app is already uploaded in the play store and anybody can download it. It is simple to operate, it can tell us the place and no need to disclose their identity and name and follow up action will be ensured by our ANTF team.”

Through this app, the citizens will be able to report about drug peddlers active in their area along with the spots from where drugs are being sold. It will also allow the people  to report about the miscreants, who get high on substances and commit crimes in their area.

“So basically people sitting in their homes, office, if they have any information, any input they can use this app , we will immediately come to know and we will ensure success,” Bishnoi said.

Asked about the success of this app, the DGP said, it is launched today but in other states they have been using it successfully like south Indian states, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and even Assam has launched last year.

“Now our app is ready, NIC have tested it, they have ratified it and loaded it today in the play store so anybody can download it. Hopefully from tomorrow it will start working,” he added.
