NPP to announce names of candidates for Tura and Shillong parliamentary seat on November

Newly appointed NPP state president Prestone Tynsong on Tuesday said the party will announce the names of candidates for both Shillong and Tura Lok Sabha seats on November.

Speaking to reporters, Tynsong said that the preparation for the upcoming Lok Sabha election is going on.

“The work is on the ground. We have already planned but of course little transitional period has taken place because I have just taken over today from outgoing president but I am telling you that is not the hurdle it is not an issue but now we are one whatever team done by Dr Kharlukhi and whatever agendas put in place to all the party leaders throughout the state I will also continue to do that,” he said.

He informed that quite a number of candidates have approached the party for a ticket.

Asked as to when TMC leader and former Umroi legislator George B Lyngdoh will join the NPP, Tynsong however said, “Not necessarily we approached George in fact everybody approached us. Our door is open, they do approach us and now we are sitting down and we workout. The detailed information is being collected, be it from Tura constituency or be it from Shillong constituency.”

Soon after taking over as the President of Meghalaya NPP President, Tynsong emphasized the importance of reconstituting the state-level committee.

Mentioning about the party’s ambitious plan to extend its reach to the district and block levels, the NPP leader said this will be done with a specific focus on preparations for the upcoming elections scheduled for early next year.

Tynsong also stressed the party’s commitment to engage with every household across Meghalaya, not only in the context of the election but as an ongoing effort to connect with the people of the state.

“My priority as the president will be to reconstitute the committee of the state-level unit, and thereafter we will also go down to the district level and to the block level because we have to prepare ourselves for the coming election which is to be held early next year and not only for the election we wanted to work hard reaching out to ourselves to every household in the entire state of Meghalaya,” the newly appointed Meghalaya NPP chief said.
