Over 18,000 teachers in Meghalaya are untrained

Over 18,000 teachers in Meghalaya are untrained. Informing this, Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma on Wednesday said, the state Government will request Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) and National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) to provide training to the untrained teachers.

The Education Minister further informed that Chief Minister Conrad Sangma will lead a delegation to Delhi and meet the Union Minister of Human Resources Development, Government of India.

During his meeting, the Chief Minister will also take up this issue with the Union Minister so that Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) and National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) can train teachers.

“More than 18,000 teachers are untrained, we will be taking up the matter with the  Union Minister of Human Resources Development to request the NIOS and IGNOU to train our teachers there,” Sangma said.

Asked, he said, “Because we have very limited seats in our state institution.”

The Education Minister held a review meeting on Wednesday. The meeting was attended by Advisor to the Education HM Shangpliang and other officials of the Education Department.

“We had a review meeting with the Education officials; we will be going to Delhi to meet the Union Minister of Human Resources Development along with our Chief Minister to discuss certain issues regarding the Education Department in the state like the CUET issue,” the Education Minister said.

He further informed that the state Government will also hold a meeting with Chairperson NTA.
