VPP prez said very unfortunate that mob attack took place at Tura & targeted CM

Opposition Voice of the People Party (VPP) president Ardent Basaiawmoit on Thursday said it was very unfortunate that the mob attack had taken place at Tura and especially that it was targeted against the chief minister of the state.

Speaking to reporters, Basaiawmoit said, “It should not have happened in the first instance. No matter how agitated you are I don’t think it is right on the part of the agitators or protesters to resort to such an extreme step where it may cause harm to the CM.”

When asked, the VPP leader said that the lapses on the part of the state police had led to the mob attack at the chief minister’s office (CMO), Tura on July 24.

“Without any doubt I can say there was lapses on the part of the police department. They must have gathered some information that the mob are preparing to attack the chief minister especially having heard the statement given by the DGP that it was a pre-planned that they have organized all these kinds of things to resort to such steps. So obviously, they should have prevented, they should have reinforce the police personnel not to allow the mob to get that opportunity to create such incident,” Basaiawmoit said.

The VPP chief said that it is the duty of the police to investigate and ascertain the reason for the attack.

“We condemn the incident out rightly and we should not encourage our youth to resort to violence,” he said.
