Police is proactive, will not allow any regrouping (of GNLA) : Govt

Deputy Chief Minister incharge of Home (Police), Government of Meghalaya on Friday said the state police is ready to go any extent if there is any attempt of regrouping.

The Deputy Chief Minister further assured the police is proactive and will make sure that regrouping does not happen.

“If they are (regrouping) , our police forces are ready to eventually go to any extent,” Tynsong said.

Talking to Mediaperson, he also said state Police is alert, and intelligence network is strengthen as will not allow any regrouping.

“My assurance to the public and the citizens of the state that the police is proactive and will make sure that the regrouping doesn’t take place,” the Deputy Chief Minister said.

 

“But what I am trying to tell you 24×7, police forces are always ready and we are proactive to any such, be it the news or be it the intention of maybe a few groups of people or maybe some young boys who wanted maybe to have that luxury of having a new group or something. We are alert and then we will not at all sleep and we will make sure that such re-grouping does not arise,” the deputy CM said.

 

Meanwhile, the NPP legislator from Rongara Siju (ST). South Garo Hills district and cabinet Minister Rakkam A Sangma on Friday said ‘enough is enough’ this is not the time for militancy.

“I urged every citizen of the State not to give any room for militancy,” Sangma said.

The legislator from Rongara Siju also asked the people of the State to support and stand with the government and this kind of anti social shouldn’t happen again and again.

“I have seen it on social Media and the state Government and police are doing needful,” he said

 It may be mentioned that the West Garo Hills police has started investigating a social media  post  claiming the regrouping of Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA).

A post on social media claiming the regrouping of the militant outfit has created a buzz in the western part of Meghalaya.

The release was signed by one Goera Pantora Sangma, the self-proclaimed chairman of the GNLA – Regroup, the new nomenclature of the group.

West Garo Hills Superintendent of Police, Dara Aswaghosh said Police are still verifying the matter.

The GNLA – R has put forward a list of resolutions that it wants to implement in the region including the end of corruption, implementation of schemes meant for the poor, Garo Customary Law (GCL), ILP beside others.
