‘Same wine in a new bottle, nothing different’: Congress on NPP led MDA govt

SHILLONG, MAR 9: Secretary of the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) Manuel Badwar Saturday expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of the NPP-led MDA government.

“Nothing much to say about what the MDA has achieved. I think it is the same wine in a new bottle, there is nothing different. There’s a lot of fluff, there’s a lot of spending even from the budget perspective if you look at it, there’s a lot of revenue expenditure and capital expenditure has hardly grown. Yes it has grown a little but I also believe that it should grow a lot more,” he said.

Stating that the Indian economy is also growing towards a 4 trillion, Badwar said, “So we are growing at 6%, we should have grown a lot better but that’s a different discussion altogether but growing at 6% also is going to translate into a quite a huge amount of corpus that comes from the Centre and being a federal country I think the state also has its own right to get that money, the point is money will keep on coming to the state it is just how the state spend it which is more important.”

“I don’t believe the way this spending that is happening in the state is actually good I really don’t believe  because I believe that it is like when you are in a family and you have a little bit of money that you get from here and there and rather than investing it in resources which are important in the long run, you are investing in resources, which are more or less fluff which is for now. So it might help them in getting electoral benefits but from a state perspective I don’t believe that will translate to anything good,” he added.

Pointing out the government’s programme of distributing pigs, Badwar said, “They (Govt) were distributing Rs 5,000 per family. Do you believe that such activities would result in any development in the state? It is very bad,” he added.
